Welcome to Utah SC

Welcome to Utah Southvalley Community High School!

Who says you have to go to the Islands for a luau?

On Thursday, May 15, Utah Southvalley at Woodland Hills had an amazing celebration and fundraiser – thanks to party gurus/administrators Dennis Liddell and Pat Murdoch.

It was a celebration of the hard work of our students and an opportunity to share our talents and cultures with each other. At first sight, many thought that they were entering the ‘barn,’ but it had magically been transformed into an island complete with palm trees, pineapples and leis.

The music department put on the best concert ever, and everyone was rocking and jamming to tunes that everyone knows. There was a brief appearance by Satan himself and his minions that have resided at the school this last year, but no one was hurt. Mr. Jimmy Lauscher has worked so hard with all of his students this year, and it was very apparent during the performance. All of the students were very well prepared, and we congratulate them on their hard work and a great performance. Because the festivities included a dinner and fundraiser, many of the students had the opportunity to play to a much larger audience than we have had in the past.

For those who choose to participate in the Hawaiian feast, the food was delicious. There was pork and chicken, poi, rice noodles and lots of fresh fruit. The Fauolo family and their friends prepared and served the dinner, showing everyone true Polynesian hospitality. We are so grateful for their willingness to share this wonderful part of their heritage with us, and their selfless contribution to the school.

Following dinner, and during the intermission, there was a wonderful performance of Polynesian dances that included many of our students. The live band provided an extra special touch. The band was even able to get many of the staff members out on the floor dancing the hula. We hope that the students and other audience were not too traumatized by this ordeal.

With all of the ticket sales to the luau and the concert, the school raised almost $5,000. Not bad for our first attempt at a major fundraiser. We want to thank all of you for your generous donations and hospitality. We know that the success of this activity was directly proportionate to the work and efforts of our students, staff and you the parents. Whether it was selling tickets, donating to our silent auction, or helping with the food we are indebted to your gracious generosity.

Thank you for all that you do to make our school great!

Sandwich day for the Homeless

Sandwich day for the Homeless

A parent wrote “I just wanted to tell both of you how much I enjoyed participating in Sandwich Day today.  I really appreciate you letting me be part of it.  I'm not quite sure what I expected, but what I found was a great group of kids and wonderful faculty.  Yes, it was a bit chaotic, but I'm not sure how it couldn't be with that many people in such a small room.  I was thanked by several of the students for coming in and helping, and that really impressed me since it was not prompted by anyone.

Thanks again.  Let me know if you need help with any events in the future.”

Fundraisers

Fundraisers

Every year school related groups all across the United States and Canada conduct school fundraisers to benefit educational programs, new school equipment, school sports and other extra curricular programs.

Sports teams, cheerleaders, band, school trips, prom... these are some of the most important activities to students. And of course it takes money. So many families chip in so that kids can benefit from these programs that mean so much to them.
